Half The Sky Foundation

You may have noticed Half The Sky featured on our homepage. This is a fantastic charity that works with children in orphanages in China. Thousands of children are now enrolled in Half the Sky’s five innovative programs that provide love and hope for children throughout the country.

For me this quote from their training manual says it all:

Changing children’s lives does not require new facilities or expensive playthings or complicated new procedures. Human contact is the most important ingredient, and caretakers can make a huge difference—just by taking an extra moment whenever possible to hold the babies, talk to the children, hug them all, and assure them that someone cares.

This year we are involved in their 'Baby Sisters Infant Nuture Program'  - Half the Sky employs, trains and supervises local women to work as full-time nannies, providing orphaned babies the stimulation, bonding and affection that are essential to a healthy start. Our sponsorship goes towards paying a nanny's salary.

The time an orphaned child spends in an institution, many months at least and often many years, has a tremendous impact on that childs long term development. This is a charity that is making a meaningful difference to childrens lives. We are thrilled to be part of that difference.
